THE FIRST ANNUAL OAKLAND PARK 5K IS A HUGE SUCCESS!!

Nearly 300 Runners and Walkers participated in the Oakland Park 5K. The West Orange Junior Service League would like to thank all of the participants and sponsors of the First Annual Oakland Park 5k. “It exceeded all of our expectations” said Erin Boyd, event chairperson and Vice President of the WOJSL. “We wanted a fundraising event different from the traditional formal gala, this was so well received; we had participants from age 5 to 78”. All of the runners/walkers enjoyed a picturesque course that took them under the Oakland Avenue Sadler Oaks, along Lake Brim and Lake Apopka. Each also received a specially screened tech-tee, a shopping bag loaded with items from area businesses and enjoyed after race bagels, fruit and even mimosas. “We anticipate being able to distribute over $10,000 to local West Orange charities as a result of the 5K” said Cara Hennen President of the WOJSL. Event sponsors included The Community of Oakland Park, Health Central, Zaxby’s, Form Community Homes, Alarie Design Associates, The West Orange Times, Tri’n Run, David Cole, CPA, Floor’s Direct, McKinnon Groves, Laura Southand and Andrew Ranck, Rachel’s Collision Center, Roper YMCA, Winter Garden Fitness, Goodwin River Recovered Specialties; and a special thank you for donations to Angela Amadore, Belinda Wilson with Tropical Brace & Limb, John Sharp with Comfort House, Bradley Gardner of Gardner’s Produce, and Josh Taylor with House of Blend Café.
