Winter Garden, FL – August 4, 2008 – Castle & Cooke Florida is pleased to announce that its new Oakland Park community received three Aurora Awards – considered the “Grammy’s of the home building industry” – at the Southeast Builder’s Conference annual gala on Saturday night.
The Oakland Park community was chosen as an Aurora Award winner in the category of Green Construction Residential Development / Mixed-Use Development. The community’s Audubon Park model received an Aurora Award in two categories: Energy Efficient Home Detached Single Family Home and Green Construction New Production Build Spec/Model.
The nationally recognized Aurora Awards annually honor builders, designers, architects and other home building industry professionals in a 12-state southeast region stretching from Texas to Virginia. The Aurora Awards Gala is traditionally the signature event of the annual Southeast Builders’ Conference, hosted by the Florida Home Builders Association.
“We are, of course, very pleased that the Aurora Award judges decided to recognize Oakland Park,” said Bob Hennen, Vice President of Castle & Cooke Florida. “Within the home building industry, the Aurora Awards are known for the level of scrutiny each entry receives and for the high standards set by the judges.”
Lying on a bluff that overlooks Lake Apopka, Oakland Park is the first community in Central Florida to be certified as “green” according to the Florida Green Building Coalition. The community is designed with a pedestrian friendly streetscape and incorporates numerous energy- and water-conserving features.
The Audubon Park, designed in the style of Florida Vernacular architecture, is a three-bedroom, three-bath home with a wrap-around front porch as well as a private sun room on the first floor. The home also offers a rear porch and sitting room outside the master bedroom on the first floor. Appraised at $590,000, the home as shown is listed at a Founder’s price of $495,000.$438,900.
Additionally, the Audubon Park model recently received a Home Energy Rating System score of 58, meaning that electric bills on average will be about 42 percent lower than bills of a similarly sized, conventionally constructed house.
“We are grateful that a jury of our peers – other home building experts from throughout the Southeast United States – recognized the effort that we’ve put into Oakland Park and all of the models we’ve built there,” Hennen said. “Literally thousands of hours of research and planning have gone into creating a ‘look and feel’ that we believe results in one of the most unique residential communities in the United States.”
